Ms. Supsup, 3rd Runner Up on Ms. Universe 2011

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

During the question-and-answer portion, actress/producer Vivica Fox asked Supsup: “Would you change your religious beliefs to the person you love and why?’’

Supsup answered: “If I have to change my religious belief, I will not marry the person I love because the first person that I love is God and He created me. And I have my faith, my principles and it what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God.’’

A sourced quote making the rounds on Facebook and Twitter, and attributed to Oprah Winfrey, questions the results:

“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”

a copy of controversial article stating that Filipino is not the language of the learned

Language, learning, identity, privilege

Ithink

By JAMES SORIANO
August 24, 2011, 4:06am

MANILA, Philippines — English is the language of learning. I’ve known this since before I could go to school. As a toddler, my first study materials were a set of flash cards that my mother used to teach me the English alphabet.

My mother made home conducive to learning English: all my storybooks and coloring books were in English, and so were the cartoons I watched and the music I listened to. She required me to speak English at home. She even hired tutors to help me learn to read and write in English.

In school I learned to think in English. We used English to learn about numbers, equations and variables. With it we learned about observation and inference, the moon and the stars, monsoons and photosynthesis. With it we learned about shapes and colors, about meter and rhythm. I learned about God in English, and I prayed to Him in English.

Filipino, on the other hand, was always the ‘other’ subject — almost a special subject like PE or Home Economics, except that it was graded the same way as Science, Math, Religion, and English. My classmates and I used to complain about Filipino all the time. Filipino was a chore, like washing the dishes; it was not the language of learning. It was the language we used to speak to the people who washed our dishes.

We used to think learning Filipino was important because it was practical: Filipino was the language of the world outside the classroom. It was the language of the streets: it was how you spoke to the tindera when you went to the tindahan, what you used to tell your katulong that you had an utos, and how you texted manong when you needed “sundo na.”

These skills were required to survive in the outside world, because we are forced to relate with the tinderas and the manongs and the katulongs of this world. If we wanted to communicate to these people — or otherwise avoid being mugged on the jeepney — we needed to learn Filipino.

That being said though, I was proud of my proficiency with the language. Filipino was the language I used to speak with my cousins and uncles and grandparents in the province, so I never had much trouble reciting.

It was the reading and writing that was tedious and difficult. I spoke Filipino, but only when I was in a different world like the streets or the province; it did not come naturally to me. English was more natural; I read, wrote and thought in English. And so, in much of the same way that I learned German later on, I learned Filipino in terms of English. In this way I survived Filipino in high school, albeit with too many sentences that had the preposition ‘ay.’

It was really only in university that I began to grasp Filipino in terms of language and not just dialect. Filipino was not merely a peculiar variety of language, derived and continuously borrowing from the English and Spanish alphabets; it was its own system, with its own grammar, semantics, sounds, even symbols.

But more significantly, it was its own way of reading, writing, and thinking. There are ideas and concepts unique to Filipino that can never be translated into another. Try translating bayanihan, tagay, kilig or diskarte.

Only recently have I begun to grasp Filipino as the language of identity: the language of emotion, experience, and even of learning. And with this comes the realization that I do, in fact, smell worse than a malansang isda. My own language is foreign to me: I speak, think, read and write primarily in English. To borrow the terminology of Fr. Bulatao, I am a split-level Filipino.

But perhaps this is not so bad in a society of rotten beef and stinking fish. For while Filipino may be the language of identity, it is the language of the streets. It might have the capacity to be the language of learning, but it is not the language of the learned.

It is neither the language of the classroom and the laboratory, nor the language of the boardroom, the court room, or the operating room. It is not the language of privilege. I may be disconnected from my being Filipino, but with a tongue of privilege I will always have my connections.

So I have my education to thank for making English my mother language.

PNoy SONA 2011

Monday, July 25, 2011

Watch  Here < - - -

Here’s the full transcript of PNoy’s Sona

State of the Nation Address of
His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III
President of the Philippines
To the Congress of the Philippines

[Delivered at the Session Hall of the House of Representatives, Batasan Pambansa Complex, Quezon City on July 25, 2011]

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile; Speaker Feliciano Belmonte; Bise Presidente Jejomar Binay; mga dating Pangulong Fidel Valdez Ramos at Joseph Ejercito Estrada; Chief Justice Renato Corona at ang ating mga kagalang-galang na mahistrado ng Korte Suprema; mga kagalang-galang na kasapi ng diplomatic corps; mga butihing miyembro ng Kamara de Representante at ng Senado; mga Local Government officials; mga miyembro ng ating Gabinete; mga unipormadong kasapi ng militar at kapulisan; mga kapwa ko nagseserbisyo sa taumbayan;

10 Craziest Things by Restless Warrior

Sunday, June 5, 2011

1. umiiyak kahit walang dahilan.
5. nai-inlove nalang bigla.
6. ginagawang unan ang inidoro.
7. nagiging galante.
8. ikinukwento ang buhay ng buong angkan.
9. nagiging english-speaking kahit wrong grammar.

I’m crazy.  I’m beginning to lose my sanity.  My work keeps me sane.  Buti na lang may pasok na bukas.  That will make me seriously busy on things.  Sana hindi na ko baliw bukas (:

Ang gusto ko lamang…

Monday, March 7, 2011

Toni Gonzaga
Kasama Kang Tumanda

Itong awiting ito
Ay alay sayo
Sintunado man tong
Mga pangako sayo
Ang gusto ko lamang
Makasama kang tumanda

Patatawanin kita
Pag hindi ka masaya
Bubuhatin kita
Pag nirayuma ka na
O kay sarap isipin
Kasama kang tumanda

Ibibili ng balot
Pag mahina na tuhod
Ikukuha ng gamot
Pag sumakit ang likod
O kay sarap isipin
Kasama kang tumanda
Sasamahan kahit kailanman
Mahigit kumulang di mabilang
Tatlumpung araw sa isang buwan
Umabot man tayo sa three thousand one
Sasamahan kahit kailanman
Mahigit kumulang di mabilang
Tatlumpung araw sa isang buwan
Umabot man tayo sa three thousand one

Loves na love parin kita
Kahit bungi bungi ka na
Para akin ikaw parin
Ang pinagwapong papa
O kay sarap isipin
Kasama kang tumanda

At nangangako sayo
Pag sinagot mong oo
Iaalay sayo buong puso ko
Sumangayon ka lamang
Kasama kang tumanda

Detecting a 2 Way Mirror

How can you tell when you are in a room, restroom,
motel etc. with a mirror or a 2-way glass?

Here’s how:

I thought it was quite interesting! And I know in about 30 seconds
you’re going do what I did and find the nearest mirror….

Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not?

This is not to scare you, but to make you aware. A policewoman
who travels all over the U.S. and gives seminars and techniques
for businesswomen passed this on.

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc.,
how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror
hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror
(i.e. they can see you, but you can’t see them)?

There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in
female changing rooms It is very difficult to positively identify the
surface by just looking at it.

So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type
of mirror we are looking at? Just conduct this simple test:

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if
there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail,
then it is a GENUINE mirror.
However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image
of your nail, then BEWARE, IT IS a 2-WAY MIRROR!

‘No Space, Leave the Place’ So remember, every time you see
a Mirror, do the ‘fingernail test.’ It doesn’t cost you anything.

Remember: ‘No Space, Leave the Place’

Ladies: Share this with your girlfriends, sisters, daughters, etc.

Men: Share this with your wives, daughters, daughters-in-law,
mothers, girlfriends and/or friends.

Super kewl ang wedding nila Oyo at Tin!  Eto ba ang tinatawag na road to forever?  Grabesh!  I super like the wedding video.   Take note the attire.  Pareho silang naka chuck taylor na white (:  For a change ba?

9 Words Women Use

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

I say: yeah, I mean shut up,end of argument, period.

 (2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

I say:  It depends on  the girls.  But usually, 5 minutes is about 30 minutes, harharhar.

 (3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

I say:  Nothing is really something.  Girls usually say indirect things.  Most of the time when they say black, they literally want to say shade of gray.

 (4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

I say:  Go ahead means Don’t do It!  Ever!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That’s Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you’re welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says ‘Thanks a lot’ - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say ‘you’re welcome’ … that will bring on a ‘whatever’).

(8.) Whatever: Is a women’s way of saying F** K YOU!

(9) Don’t worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking ‘What’s wrong?’ For the woman’s response refer to # 3.

Baek Seung Jo’s Diary on Playful Kiss

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Where to read Mischievous Kiss/Playful Kiss’ Diary?

 Read it from here

Episode 14 of Playful Kiss was the best so far.  This made me  smile up to my ears. Cuteness overload, ahahaha.O Ha Ni’s hardwork really paid off.  The kiss was nice. Though not that great, but better compared on the first part.  Really t’was improving,  really playful.  But then again, I think there would be more shouting so to stress some emotion to deliver and portray it better.

The castings, they’re great!

I love Baek Seoung Jo’s (Kim Hyun Joong) Parents especially  his  Mom.  She is one of the coolest mom in the world.  One of a kind. Amazingly hilarious. I wish to be like her. Well, we’ve got something in common.  We’re both loud. She loves camera and pictures, and I love it too.  Wah, so much fun.  She rocks!

I love Bong Joon Gu.  He’s so handsome.  He makes me hungry whenever he’s preparing and experimenting foods especially when he’s preparing lunch box.  I love him for being so handsome.  Omo, omo, I will really fall for this kind of guy.  Very loyal to Oh Ha Ni.  I wish O Ha Ni can change her heart towards Bong Joon Gu.  I cried for Boo Joong Go. I hate heart breaks.  Why is it really hard to let go of the feelings.  Wow, I really am relating. I love his tag line.  His life navigation is Oh Ha Ni.

I love Baek Seong Jo, the cold blooded, mean, Baek Seong Jo who has an IQ of 200.  Really, it is really amazing he got some photographic memory.  I love a few episodes back when he was tutoring  Oh Ha Ni.  I love the abs,  the jaw line, and the smile.  Who didn’t want a man like him?

I love her friends.  Friends are the best.  They make you feel good despite of bad things.  They share sufferings and happiness.  Really friends are treasures.

The teenager in me has never went away!  Love is really in the air.  Yay!  Cuteness!

Message to the PK Team:

Kamsahamnida!    I really enjoyed this drama up to the nth level!  I did stalk on  youtube re: special edition.  I will miss Baek Seung Jo’s smile who can light up the entire new york city  and Oh Ha Ni’s amazing optimism.

Thank you so so much.  Fighting!!
